It’s art I miss most about London, aside from my mates of course. Art on the street, big name shows at the TATE Modern or V&A, group shows in small galleries in East London, galleries in bathrooms, vast galleries, galleries in car parks in Peckham, popUP galleries, galleries within galleries… Dropping into galleries around the corner, like The Photographers Gallery and seeing A Dalston Anatomy by Lorenzo Vitturi for which he won this year’s Hyeres Prize for photography and which by anyone’s standards is no mean feat. Lorenzo’s work is rich, ripe, graphic, loud, real and really captures the essence of London, Lorenzo’s London and my London too. Job done, when art can make you homesick for a place deep in your heart right?
Now, if last year’s winner of the Hyeres Prize and possibly one of my favourite ever creatives, Namsa Leuba and her talent is anything to go by, Lorenzo Viturri is in for a big year/ big career… already happening. Check his awesome collaboration with stylist Robbie Spencer which shows fresh perspective on Maison Martin Margiela’s recent Artisanal collection (j’die) in the latest edition of Dazed & Confused. Deep in my anatomy is Dalston. x
