inspired by the charm and dilapidated beauty of this turkish peasant jacket that is new to the BlackDot World Archive – i have fallen for purple for the first time and thus needed to do some investigative work on the colour that in its combination of red and blue seems to suffer from a split personality. february is the month associated with purple, so it looks like my timing is right.
purple embodies the balance of red’s stimulation and blue’s calm. purple uplifts, calms the mind and nerves and encourages creativity. purple is the colour of good judgement and purpose. it is the colour of people seeking spiritual enlightenment, which unfortunately is where my problem with purple began…my past aversion to purple was associated with the very OTT purple people i encountered in india – head to toe in purple but not good purple if you know what i mean? in moving forward with purple, it is associated with imagination and inspiration, mystery and magic – and we could all use some of that in our lives right? if you want to re-balance your life and remove obstacles from it – purple up people.
apparently purple is THE colour to use in meditation. in fact leonardo da vinci believed that the power of mediation increased tenfold when practised in a purple light. continuing on a spiritual level – purple is the colour of the crown chakra which is linked to the crown of the head, the nervous system, the brain and is representative of pure thought. this chakra connects one to the infinite consciousness. opening this chakra will help tap into a deep spiritual understanding and ensures that you are connected to universal sources of energy. oh la la purple power.

prince is purple = sexy.
one of the best songs of all time by the king of purple and my first true love, prince boasts purple personality mysterious, provocative and unconventional.
+ just because we are talking about prince, another killer song – 17 days from the b-side of when doves cry.
