GRAPHIC Stimulation.

I have been searching high and low to find you the best in Black and White ALL over for your home. From the streets of Milan to sunny Sydney, from favourite online outposts to super stores and back to Black and White at our very own BlackDot studio. Discover here a modern and primitive mix from independent designers, artists, artisans and old school giants. A crescendo of graphic pattern that will bring a fresh perspective.

Black and white will take you back to basics and is the perfect mix to help you de-stress and de-clutter from your busy life. To avoid minimal and clinical, utilise a hoard of textures on your floors, in bed and on your walls. Mix your monochrome in modern and primitive for a fresh perspective, cookie cutter interiors need not apply. Independent designers and artists provide the point of difference. Soothe and stimulate with black and white. Jump in. x

London wonder store Darkroom mixes monochrome magnificently amongst much other greatness with colour, pattern and product. Their own ZIG ZAG plate and the Ferm vase collection bring eclectic geometric and balance in black and white to the table.

The SCENERY label by Bethany takes influence from Africa and is inspired by craft and culture in tropical climates…no wonder I have fallen for this collection. These black and white beauties are the ultimate in graphic interior accessories and bound for my bed. Mix and match.il_570xn-433110040_fhae1il_570xn-433856484_o6qa1

London-based designer Arlette Ess creates prints and accessories from finest materials. Her Flowers of Earthly Delights wallpaper is an orgy of gorgeous genitalia and brilliant for the boudoir.

Looking for new ways to dress your walls? These wall flags from Sydney-based graphic design studio Blacklist are the answer. Sailor tastic and with a vintage edge, these flags will bring an AHOY vibe to your home.

One of my favourite finds from Salone just gone was My Couch, My Canvas by Annebet Phillips. The Dutch designer has cut the sofa and it’s cushions from a single block of foam and covered it with a hand painted and removable canvas in both black and white. Clever and cartoon.

Bethan Gray’s collaboration with British natural stone company Lapidica at Salone presented these tip-top tabletop products in black and white marble. Inspired by the spectacular stone configurations found in historical buildings such as the Amalfi cathedral. I’m imagining this graphic glory at breakfast feastings.

Lladro Atelier’s Dazzle collection transforms existing pieces in a complex pattern in black and white stripes. Jaime Hayon as Director of Lladro Atelier has taken the old school ceramics house to new heights with his modern primitive mix.

Cult Australian brand Dinosaur Designs has gone all out with “The Art of Black and White”. More than ever, this collection has me wanting a bounty of their handmade resin receptacles in my life. Stack them high.

New online store White PUNCH is where Scandinavia meets the world. This Pipe Candle Stand by house doctor would set your dinner party ablaze and who doesn’t love an excessive amount of candle drip to play with?

These black and white bone inlay pieces blow me away and always remind me of my visits to incredible India – where they are handmade. Ruby Star Traders in Sydney have an awesome collection. Ethnic Geometric.2d8f8e81d921bone_inlay_chair_2l

Gobsmacked by the beauty of this amazing black and white mix headdress from our own collection and just landed from Cameroon, Africa. Traditionally worn by Royal dancers of the Bamileke tribe during ceremonies, this incredible African feather headdress symbolises prosperity and is believed to possess the positive qualities of birds. Good Juju.

I couldn’t help myself and have to add these favourite Black and White ALL over finds…
Set designer extraordinaire Gary Card created a magical monochrome set for William Selden and Simon Foxton’s epic street wear story “If you want apples you have to shake the tree” in the latest issue of i-D.

For this year’s Frieze Art Fair in NYC, German artist Tobias Rehberger has transplanted a dazzling version of his favourite Frankfurt drinking den to Chelsea’s Hotel Americano. Wowowow.

I hope this post leaves you feeling inspired to brinsome black and white into your life. Start with a small project/ room/corner and build it up over time. For future reference, many colours work wonders with monochrome, so you are able to create a new palette at any moment. Mix it up.

  • The plate and pots from Dinosaur Designs are fantastic. It’s something I’ve never seen before, like somethings been splatted over them :). Thanks for sharing. xD

    • So unique Doris, I agree. The Dinosaur guys work with resin, check their website for a look-see into their incredible collections across homewares and jewellery. Hope you’re well. xxx
