a new year means new rituals from new resolutions right? in 2012 i will continue to curb my packaging consumption, support small environmentally friendly business’ and shop outside of supermarkets…. super store – unpackaged meets me on all three of my demands for the new year and beyond. set up in 2006 by forward thinking catherine conway because she wanted to refill her groceries using her own containers, simples. since then catherine has been voted number 32 in the observer food monthly top 40 eco heroes and the store was recently voted in time out’s top 100 shops, very cool eco-credentials these. unpackaged is a beautiful shop that enables stocking up on daily essentials without all that unnecessary packaging hoopla that we have unfortunately become accustomed too. bring your own containers (anything goes) or buy great glass jars there to load up on lentils and the like, loose coffee and tea, nuts, fruits and seeds and most other store cupboard essentials. find also organic and seasonal vegies, ewe’s milk cheese, glory cakes and bread, organic cleaning products galore and refillable shampoos and conditioners. we went home heavier with bee pollen, cacao nibs, chia seeds and goji berries that made this morning’s porridge mega. do yourself and landfill a favour – get thee to unpackaged asap. for more information on unpackaged please visit their website. p. s most items purchased at unpackaged came out considerably cheaper than supermarket prices on the same items. tick.
