scarves are THE accessory of the moment. liberty, under the creative direction of retail superstar yasmin sewell has an entire room devoted to them driving designers world-wide to up their ante in the print department – a true blessing for those of us inspired by such, sales of vintage scarves at portabello are up 400% this year alone and friends of mine nicky albrechtsen + fola solanke – part of the portabello print mafia have just launched a book dedicated to this singular piece of fabric in all its glory, entitled purely and simply SCARVES. the book includes concise biographies of over 50 scarf designers, retailers and manufacturers – providing expert advice on dating and conservation, museum collections, vintage fairs and specialist dealers – a great resource. i went to the launch last night to view the beauty and sup on wine with printaholic friends all the while discussing every which way to wear them. scarf up people.
SCARVES in all its scarf-bound glory.
as we’re having a scarf moment, i thought i would share some of my own scarf collection – current favourites because of their odd colour couplings – saturated brights combined with shades of brown or grey. it’s this same kind of mix that consuelo castigliono of marni does best – see examples of her excellent and odd eye on colour from the AW 2011 collection below my scarf series.
marni AW 2011 = as always…amaze.
