duru olowu a/w 2011
minimalism has never been my thing – in fact i am a proud maximalist both at home and on the bod. the beautiful garments that duru olowu creates are designed with women like me in mind – his expertise at splicing an eclectic range of fabrics including his own prints, vintage couture silks off the back of trucks in his old school base portabello, to native nigerian prints is one reason that makes his garments so great. “my clothes are about joy”, says duru, and from the pictures of his collections both past and present you can see that to be true. happy clothes, how god damn wonderful is that? not rocket science by any means but music to the ears of many women world-wide bored by the minimalism thing. his patch-working of wonder fabric, great + easy shapes and an ethnic sensibility say yes, yes, yes to getting dressed. dress happy – do duru olowu.
