last night i was lucky, lucky, lucky with free tickets and a friend to the extraordinary and spectacular “the irrepressibles” at the beauty that is the barbican. in one word, WOW. in trying to define exactly what the irrepressibles sound like is difficult to say the least, ‘a chamber pop band” are the words from their own website. any which way you look at them, the irrepressibles created and directed by the complete and utter superstar jamie mcdermott is a truly dynamic live experience. intoxicating? yes. alongside the heart-wrenching beauty of jamie’s voice and charisma is the delight of an orchestra with spunk and rhythm – the precision and beauty of their instruments, costume and choreography comes second to chamber pop band none. so achingly beautiful and enlightening was the experience, that the entire audience (and dampened by january in london!) was moved to a standing ovation – impressive. encore.
