let them eat cake – and we did!

i first discovered this posh patisserie in gay paris in september last year when i was there for the premiere vision textile trade show while i was heading up beyond retro’s incredible vintage textile and print archive. we had just had coffee at the infamous hotel amour around the corner and then BAM we stumbled upon this sweet beauty. i love a good stumble, don’t you? the man behind the bread and more is arnaud delmontel and this sweet-box of shops bears his same name. opened first in 1999 and always with a queue out the door – you would be mad to miss this pure delight when your next in the french capital. our sampling of whats on offer did by no means disappoint and were best described on the day as “breaths of beauty”. the light and fluffiness of it all completely negating the kilos that were delectably ingested. hah. god must be an artisanal baker too.

p.s i was too focused on the sweeties to photograph any of the bread here – but equally as tres gourmet!

this was our viewpoint for the devouring of said sweetness.

rose bakery is just across the street, the original incarnation of the same at london’s dover street market by the forever brilliant designer and innovator retailer rei kawakubo.
